Collagen Matrix Acquired by Metalmark Capital

Metalmark Capital, a New York, N.Y.-based private equity firm, had made a majority investment in Oakland, N.J.-based Collagen Matrix Inc., which makes tissue repair and regeneration products. According to Collagen Matrix, Metalmark’s investment in Collagen Matrix will provide the resources, expertise and capital needed to continue to grow its business. As part of the transaction, Collagen Matrix’s management team, including founder and CEO Shu-Tung Li, Ph.D., will remain with the company. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Collagen Matrix’s first product was a collagen membrane used in oral surgery. Now its portfolio includes more than 30 different medical devices in the oral/maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery and orthopedic/spine surgery sectors. The company specializes in collagen- and mineral-based extracellular matrices for tissue and organ repair and regeneration.
